Ida likes to dip into the spirits... the alcohol spirits. Thats why she gets these foggy gazes.
And Hank never had the nerve to go live the life he dreamed about... foot loose and fancy free. And now he's almost too old to actually do it and he knows it. He's getting real close to that "fork in the road".... that last chance.
Will he have the guts to jump or will he continue buttoning down his collar and behaving as society expects? I, for one, hopes Hank jumps ship, but he better do it soon. If he waits around for Ida to die first, it will take too long. She's embalmed herself with too many spirits and will probably live to be 100.

Well, to me this looks like Ida and her son Hank who is just plain tired of his life.
