A New Pet

Darius has gotten himself a new pet. He named it Rocky. Rocky's been Darius' pet for about a week now. I didn't mention it before because I wanted to see if it was a permanent relationship or not. Apparently Rocky is here to stay. Stay Rocky, stay!

Do you remember the Pet Rock craze a few decades ago? How freaking clever was that marketing!! And cost-of-sales must have been minimal so the profit margin had to have been amazing.

(Someone at work gave me a pet rock. That was my introduction to it. I remember the little box it came in was sweet and the instructions were HILARIOUS!!!!)

Darius found Rocky in the lot next to us. He had to dig and dig to get him out of the dirt, the little hero. You can still see the hole. That first day I thought it was just a passing fancy and the rock would be forgotten, but no. The next day when Darius went outside to play the first thing he did was stub his toe on Rocky and they've been close ever since.

Now I don't know squat about rocks, other than they can hurt you if thrown hard, but they must reproduce like rabbits. The second day I noticed there were already little ones hanging around. Little baby rockettes. Awwwwww (The placement of the little rocks makes it look like a foot, huh.)

And they're very well mannered. I wish I could say the same for Darius. The other day I caught Darius just in the nick of time. He was getting ready to throw some rocks at passing cars. I may have saved his life, but he doesn't see it that way. To him I'm just a party pooper. That's just the way adulthood rolls.

The perfect weapons of mass distraction.

It's a good think you caught him before he began to pelt passing cars!

I know a small amount about rocks, mainly from my cousin who is sort of a "rock freak". She really believes in their energy to heal us. I also believe in magnetic hematite because it helped my tendonitis in my arm once...like a miracle. So I would say to encourage this collection Darius has. Collecting things can really fill up time for kids and when they are free rocks...sounds like a winner to me.

Makes you wonder where young kids would be without us adults to save them sometimes though. Reminded me of my own kiddos and all their incidents along life's way. None serious though thank goodness.

That's the kind of pet I like...no feeding and letting out to go poo or having to walk a rock. Funny story.

Jon and Nick loving digging up my flowerbeds and finding rocks.
Last weekend Jon had several, I gave him a little bag. When his mother got here to pick them up she said "NO, have of grandma's back yard is in your bedroom... NO MORE ROCKS... I don't think he thought of having them for pets... He has enough for a pet store.

Cute post CC.

Rocks obviously have to suckle their young, too. My kids have all brought home rocks and stones that have taken their fancy, and presented them to me like diamonds. Some of them had very little in the way of attractive features, but then you never know what goes through their little minds when they find these things. You have to treasure all offerings.
