Oooops

A man was being tailgated by a stressed out woman on a busy boulevard. Suddenly, the light turned yellow, just in front of him.

He did the right thing, stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection.

The tailgating woman was furious and honked her horn, screaming in frustration as she missed her chance to get through the intersection, dropping her cell phone and makeup.

As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window and looked up into the face of a very serious police officer.

The officer ordered her to exit her car with her hands up.

He took her to the police station where she was searched, finger printed, photographed, and placed in a holding cell.

After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the door.

She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer was waiting with her personal effects.

He said, "I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping off the guy in front of you, and cussing a blue streak at him.

"I noticed the ' Choose Life' license plate holder, the ' What Would Jesus Do' bumper sticker, the 'Follow Me to Sunday-School' bumper sticker, and the chrome-plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk.

Naturally... I assumed you had stolen the car."

Colorful Paintings

I came across a web site for Paul Solevad while checking out craigslist.org. I like them... bold and colorful. But I also like the paintings because I recognized the locations. Scoll down the page a little and let me tell you what I think they represent (the locations):

A Portland Morning... self-explanatory. The Willamette River cuts through the city of Portland. I'm guessing, but I think the left side is east and the right west. This is based on the two pointy towers far back on the left. If this is so, that would make the first bridge the Broadway.

This photo is from the opposite end of the city, but its the same Willamette River:

Columbia Gorge... again, self-explanatory. Since the area is green I would say this is west of where "I AM" lives.

A Day On The Hill... My guess is that this is referencing Marcum Hill where OHSU is; Oregon Health and Science University, a teaching hospital. (They've changed names several times so I might not have this just right. I worked there about 25-30 yrs ago when it was called something else.) The figures would represent the patients and probably the waiting to be seen. The slang name for the place is 'Pill Hill'.

The Food Chain

Fremont Place... this caught my eye because I believe its in my general neighborhood. 15th and Fremont. The shop on the corner is a Starbucks. The mini-mall contains the Wild Oats store, where I go to get my incense. And it looks like things are wet from the rain.

Manifest Destiny Grid

Park Blocks... Downtown near Portland State University, the Portland Art Museum, etc. Its very pretty, but lately the police have had to focus on it at night to get the homeless, drug-users, and indecent behavior folks to leave the area. It was becoming dangerous. A scene from the movie What The Bleep Do We Know was shot in the Park Blocks. (the basketball scene with the young boy) In fact, the whole movie was filmed in Portland.

Duck and Bubble... ??

Washougal Harbor... this is in Washington. I have not been there and I couldn't find any photos of it on the web.

More beauties

Here are a couple of beauties from L's porch and the last shot is of the neighbor's day lilies (I'm guessing day lilies). I'm not sure how it will show up in the photo, but the neighbor's flowers were a deep orange/red.

Visiting

Went to visit my friend L. for a couple of hours yesterday evening. Each week, when she goes grocery shopping, she picks herself up some cut flowers from Zuppans.... or could it be Trader Joe's? Anyway, this is what she does for herself each week. It started when the house cleared out and she has it to herself. I always look forward to seeing them.

For Zebra

As I blog surfed this morning I discovered the web site of Tara Larsen Chang. (Love her work!) The illustration on her homepage looks like 'the little love of your life'... the little prince. Check it out.

Edit:Its a zebra kind of day. Here's another painting that made me think of you.

Where did it go?

I made a short post a couple of days ago... going through Picasa. I just now noticed it had never been posted. I'm not really surprised. The "upload" part of the process seemed to take forever. Next time I will know to go and check to make sure the entry made it. And to all my millions of readers, and you know who you are... yes, you over in the corner there, the post was just a note to say there was nothing going on and nothing to write about. In fact, this entry is longer than the 'lost' one.

Hoping to be back later with something a bit more spicy to read... spicy as in at least one grain of salt.

added HUH?! Now the lost entry has shown up. WTF?

Its Friday

Nothing much to blog about... we're still having Spring weather which means 'dramatic'. Dark clouds, occasional thunder storms with buckets of water, then a break, etc.

I've been sitting here for a few minutes and I was right... nothing to blog about. And that's a good thing. It means all is well.

Big Brother Alive and Well

The FBI has attempted to put a "mole" in our city government. (Is 'mole' the right term?) The Mayor has "outed" the attempt by letting the citizens know about it. Now why would the FBI be interested in having an informant, you may ask. One reason might be because our Mayor did not roll over and play brain dead when they wanted the city to supply them with personnel. We would be paying the salary of this person but would not have any idea what they would be working on (was it safe? was it legal?... you have to ask that legal question when you are dealing with the FBI or the CIA. Legal doesn't mean the same thing to them as it does to everyone else), where they would be at... absolutely no information about it. The Mayor refused. Go Mayor Potter!

(Now to make sure its clear, when I say 'we' would not know what the person would be working on, I meant that as in the Mayor would know... not anyone else.)

Perhaps there's some revenge seeking going on by the FBI. I mean after all... everyone is suppose to turn into puppets and think they are on the side of good. BWAH HAHAHAHAHAHA Does the name J. Edgar Hoover mean anything to you? If not, I strongly urge you to dive into some accurate history and find out. Check into his closet and see what you find... you may have to move some of his dresses aside, but look deeply. Its SCARY!

Apparently, Big Brother is alive and well.

The van belongs to SCRAP... a program that collects scraps and discards from artists and recycles them by giving it to other artists, students and teachers. I think that's so kewl.

More

Looks like Picasa limits the number of photos uploaded at one time to three. Here's some pictures taken in a gallery. (There wasn't a WHOLE BUNCH of visual art to look at and what was there didn't impress me... not my cup of tea, being the coffee drinker that I am.)

(these paintings look better in the photographs than they did in person.)

More Art Hop

I'm still learning how to use Picasa efficiently and I've got a ways to go. I will simply make separate blog entries for those photos requiring comments.

Here's a nice lady who was "trying to get it out there"... meaning trying to get her art/name out. Good luck with getting her name out there so people remember it. I grabbed one of her cards. "Signature Pieces by Oluwakemi". I can't even remember how to pronounce it, but she was very nice. She hadn't sold any of her paintings yet, but did sell several of her 'flowers'. (See the flower in her hair.)

Alberta Street Art Hop 2006

A community of artists has grown on Alberta St. in Portland. As with most art communities, it got its start because of very low rents. This portion of the street had been run down, with many vacant buildings, over the years. It had started to develop a reputation as drug alley. Now the investors and developers have moved in and I'm guessing the rents are already beginning to increase. It will be interesting to see what the street is like after a few more years.

In any event, this weekend was the Alberta Art Hop. It is much like the Alberta Last Thursday Art Walk only with more music. I drove down the street yesterday but it was too busy and I couldn't find a parking space. I returned today before it got really crowded. Here are some pictures.

The Big Bang - Trojan

Enron's Trojan Nuclear Plant cooling tower was imploded this morning. Everything went smoothly as planned. Well, as far as we know things were okay. I did some searching of info on Trojan and once again found how much Enron screws their customers. It caused my heart to race and my blood pressure to rise like it does anytime the name Enron comes up. The company seems to be the ultimate bloodsucker. The only good thing I can say involving Enron is that it no longer owns PGE (Portland General Electric).

The ratepayers paid for everything connected with Trojan... including making up the profits lost after Trojan was shut down early due to construction design flaws. Did you get that, what I just said? The ratepayers were paying and continued to pay to cover profits on a nonfunctioning power plant. (00) I need to leave this subject alone now because its so bad for my health. Its bad for my physical, mental, and spiritual health and the only thing I can think of to say is WHY IS THIS CORRUPT COMPANY STILL IN BUSINESS????????

I've got to go meditate for a couple of hours now. The only other thing to add is that I was a PGE "ratepayer" for probably less than a year. Pitiful little statement that it is. Life does seem to be a matter of survival of the fitest and that requires extremely long and sharp teeth coupled with very long and sharp claws... and no conscience. Greed is ugly.

With Coffee in Hand

I'm sitting here at the pc with the window opened...the breeze blows in firmly. So firmly I almost feel like getting a jacket. I'm trying to get the apt. as cool as possible before closing everything up in a little while. Its suppose to get close to 90 degrees today. If I can get the apt. cool in the morning, then it stays fairly cool. And "fairly" is the operative word.

I've already ran a short errand this morning and I shot this picture of a bus stop.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
A bus stop? you asked... yes, a bus stop. I was trying to get a shot of the artwork. If you see a yellow spot on the column of the roof area... that is the art. It looks like an American Indian design. When the city expanded the Max trains (public transportation option) they hired several artists to "prettify" the train stops.

Leslieann Butler was featured on last week's Oregon Art Beat. A loose, whimsical style with gobs of color. She is best known for her pet portraits. She started out doing realistic colored pencil art but when she experimented with a looser style she became instantly addicted. I like the looseness and color.

Brrrr... I think I'm going to have to go put on a jacket now.

Sizzler

**Its suppose to be in the 90s today. I'm sitting here with both windows open so cool air will be suck inside. Then I'll shut things up for the day. I did manage to buy a fan yesterday and I'm glad I didn't put it off until today.

**I won't be able to relax until I close the front window.

**I saw Candace and family for a short while yesterday. The 'wee one' is now a toddler, fer sure. And he likes to be held all the time. Unfortunately I forgot to grab my camera before heading out.

**I did manage to take a couple of photos yesterday, though. This is at the end of the day. It was warm and I had a hankering for a cold one.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
It wasn't quite cold enough. The beer should be right at that place where liquid turns into slurppy ice crystals. The first swig was good.... but the rest of it was a chore. Good thing it was a short one.

**The after shot.

Dead Dog.

Its That Kind of Day

I wish I drank. If I did I'd either have me a buzz going or be sleeping it off. I wonder how much revenue is generated from the sale of alcohol. The only legal drug. Bummer.

Mother's Day is coming. How many Mothers' Day cards are sent out of obligation and with hate.... I bet its most of them. Any thing that is wrong with a person has to be because of their mother. It couldn't possibly be because they are just screwed up all on their own. No bonified off-spring would ever think of standing up and saying "I screwed my life up." Naw, its always because of the mother. Well, I'm standing up. My mother didn't have anything to do with my life... it was all my doing.

Spoiled ass brats whining because 'mother threw away my raggedy, germ-encrusted teddy bear and I'm ruined for life.' Give me a frigging ass break.

If I wasn't the dumb-assed bitch that I was I wouldn't have had any children. Then where would they all be. All I've got to say is GET SOME PERSPECTIVE. Take a look at what a really truly "bad mother" does... bet I'd come up smelling like a... like a... well, something other than a rose. And if you have a lousy mother stop expecting her to be a good grandmother. Do you know what a good grandmother looks like? She looks like a fool standing there handing over gobs and gobs of money to you.... that's what she looks like. Its all about what she can do for you.

One of my daughters (I have four), when in her twenties, went through a period of time when there were no boyfriends... no dates.... no nothing. She's attractive, trim, and can be pleasant. I would wonder to myself 'whats up with these guys?!?' Then I found out what the problem was. It was HIGH MAINTENANCE. She's the center of everyone's universe and everyone else in the world is selfish. When the one word that keeps popping into a conversation is selfish you can pretty much be assured of what the deal is with her. She married a whimp. Someone she pushes around. And he's her hatchetman. He's the one she sends out to do her dirty work. "I don't like confrontation." Well, most people don't.

And speaking of blaming everything on mother.... what was Mother Nature thinking by setting it up so children can have babies? What's up with that?? Its all screwed up. Physically its better to have children when you're in your twenties... but there's no wisdom there. That doesn't come until some time in the forties, if it comes at all. So .... its not very logical.

And while I'm bitching here, let me say that I fully admit that I did not make a good mother. It wasn't intentional, though. You see... it was all my mother's fault.

PS... don't hate me because I'm beautiful. There are plenty of other reasons. BWAH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

Playing with a Two Year Old

No, I didn't have a date. My grandson, Darius, spent the night. Each time I see him he looks like he's grown another inch. His torso is getting long and he's losing his two-year-old cuteness. I mean, he still has it, but its just not letting him get away with as much as it use to... fade to forty.

His vocabulary is improving.... shut up, you're not the boss of me, (I assured him I was... I think he understood)I'm not kidding, etc. However, the giggling after speaking his statements got him off the hook. The hook in the closet.

He's also into counting. We counted everything in the place as long as it didn't go over ten. Two, Tree, Five, Sebin, Ten. Then we repeated it.

Much to my chagrin, someone has taught him to box, and he certainly seems to have gotten a good grasp of the action. He knows how to hold his fists, swing a punch, and swing a one-two jab. Be still my heart.

It didn't take long before he was ready to go home. There's more action going on there than here... and that's where "mom" was. He was missing her. He let me know when he was ready to go home and we seemed to be on the same wave-length, same timing, etc. And mom came at the right time... just before naps.
