Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (A Magpie Tale Presentation)

Magpie Tales posts a visual prompt each week and invites others to write a short story or a poem about it. Check it out here.

Reduce, reuse, recycle. That was Bob's motto to live by... and it was evident by the decor of his shabby little apartment.

He stood in front of the fish bowl and watched for a while.

"What do you think, Dorothy. Will it brighten up your life?"

Dorothy refused to answer. In fact she purposely ignored Bob and just kept swimming angrily back and forth, but Bob was use to it. He waited for her to calm down. She didn't. Finally his shoulders slumped and concern showed in his eyes.

"I'm sorry. I'M SORRY, DOROTHY! I just... I just didn't know what else to do with a broken lava lamp."

Maybe she hates it because it looks like an octopus. Cute story, CC.

Dear CC: I found this story absolutely most entertaining! It does look like a lava-lamp! I use to have one! Both are sort of creepy; red pulsating forms. Eeeek! Great albiet creepy take on the magpie prompt!

A fun little nugget!
Did Bob name his fish after Elmo's fish on Sesame Street?

Interesting and fun take on magpie -- a lava lamp -- I think they still sell those.

To answer ~T~ 's question, yes the fish is named after Elmo's Dorothy. I've been known to make the grandsons be quiet during Elmo's segment so I could enjoy Mr. Noodles. One of the Mr. Noodles, anyway. (I don't know the actor's name, but I've seen him in a few movies. Very funny.)

So cute this is. Um..perhaps the real reason she hates it is cause the color is all wrong.

Poor Dorothy to have to share her space with a broken lava lamp!
Very funny take on the picture prompt!

Certainly one of the cleverest responses to the current prompt.

Ooo clever! I don't think anyone else saw a broken lava lamp. Unfortunately, I know how both Dorothy and Bob feel.

I bet she wanted to click her heels and go back to her old home (whatever it was).

HA! Apparently, Dorothy is not an old school fish. She's stylish and not one to be stuck in the 70s with lava lamps and avocado green shag carpet. Cute.
