The two grandsons came over and spent the night. There is absolutely nothing for them to do around here, so I let them 'pretend' to do the dishes. I wanted to show you what Vyron was wearing... rubber boots. Rubber boots with hooks on them to pull them up. I'm betting 'mom' couldn't find his shoes and she was in a hurry to get rid of him. I mean, send him on his way to my place. Been there. Done that.
Earlier today we were outside. "Run, boys, Run...get rid of all that energy!!" They each took a turn playing with a raggedy umbrella I had. I had been watching Vryon open and close the umbrella (can't get any more exciting than that!) and then I turned my attention towards Darius for a moment. A small whine bought my attention back to Vyron. Somehow he had gotten an umbrella spoke laced thru the loops on his rubber boots. And not just one boot, but both of them!
How'd he do that? In a blink of an eye. I thought it was funny so I laughed to show my appreciation. The two boys didn't think it was funny and Darius told me to stop laughing. "Its not funny, gramma!" Like he knows what funny is.

The Honeymoon's Over
I knew this day would come, even as I kept trying to push it back. But... its here. The day when my darling 5 yr old grandson turned into a boy. No longer a baby. No longer a sweetpie. Now he's a demanding, obnoxious .... boy.
Gone are the days when I heard "Yes, gramma." or "Thank you, gramma." Now all I get is "I TOLD YOU... I want it this way! And I want it NOW!"
The little nose-picker looks like he's here to stay. He likes to work with his hands and tools now. Tearing things apart. Scratching the furniture as he struggles with a pair of pliers to dismantle the coffee table. Jumping on the bed with a toenail clipper in his hands... the sharp pointy thing extended. Do you think he appreciates me keeping him safe by demanding he put the clippers down while jumping? Nooooooo. Do you think he appreciates even being able to jump on the bed? Nooooo. He wants to take the bed apart.
Sigh. I'm counting the hours until 'mom' comes to get him.
His brother is younger and thus not demented yet. Vyron's phase may not be as harsh, either... different personalities and all. I would cross my fingers for good luck, but I need them to hold Darius down while I take his finger out of his nose.
I'm just glad I'm not responsible for them. 'Mom's' karma?
(and why does Darius have to have every single light on?)

The Day After
This is my day after, my recup day. The day I pull myself back together after having entertained one of life's natural energy bursts... the day after watching my two grandsons for the night. Some day afters are needed more than others. This was a pretty good sleepover. The boys were nice. They were nice to me and amazingly nice to each other. Go me!
"My gramma lets us jump on the bed!! We love my gramma. Watch me. Watch how high I can jump."
"Gramma, watch. Here's a Running-Belly-Flop..." (I think its a name of a wrestling move.)
The pile of rubble after the wrestling match. They had a lot of fun and there was no permanent damage.

The Boys Spent the Night
The boys unexpectedly spent the night. 'Mom' dropped something off and the boys kept muttering "gramma, can I hang out with you?" Later I had to remind them that they were the ones who asked to stay the night. This was when I was making them quiet down.
"I got yer back, bro!"
Stick guitars. Darius played with this stick the whole time he was here. It was a sword, a guitar, and a stick to dig in the dirt. Vyron had a back scratcher... I mean, Fender. He had a Fender guitar.
"I got muscles gramma!"
"That cloud looks like a dinasaur, gramma!"
