Depression Cooking with Clara

I heard about these videoes on Good Morning America...Depression Cooking with Clara. Clara is a 90+ yr old woman who learned how to cook from her mother during the depression. I've watched just one video... Poorman's Meal. I have actually made this meal when my kids were young. Go figure.

Clara also talks a little about her life when she was young. Check it out... there are many videoes each with a different dish.

Thanks for the link. Years ago, my mom used to make m'jadara, an Arabic dish with lentils and rice. I always thought it was a meatless Friday thing, but on reflection, I think it was a stretch the dollar at the end of the week meal. Either way, it was delicious. I still make this delicious dish. Maybe I should post a recipe.

By all means, Rudee... post the recipe. Perhaps make it and post a picture too. I need pictures. (00)

Sandy, do I look a little green? Envy, perhaps, of having someone else cook. But I always say, give the job to the one who does it best. That's why I controlled the money. I can pinch juice outta a penny. It was also because I was the one WORKING! bwah ha ha ha

I went to check out the website Greatdepressioncooking.com but its not available. I bet after so many people hearing about it on ABC that too many people went there and it crashed. I'll check later.

What a interesting blog. She reminds me of my late Aunt Cassie. Before she had to go to assisted living... She was always the one who would have a meal in minutes from "nothing". Because of growing up in the depression, she always had food in her pantry since my Uncle Bud and her worked for years in the Canneries in the Valley.
Lucky for Don, I love to cook!

I don't usually watch GMA but did that day when I watched the baby at 7 am. I don't know how I survived eating what I had to eat. Some of it was pretty gross, now that I think of it. We did have a large vegetable garden though and all of that was great! Winter time, not so good.
I got a kick out of the lady that whacked the teens with her pan that broke into her house. Did you see that? It was funny...
